In Honor of Women’s History Month and Social Work Month, we are highlighting incredible women at Partners in Care Foundation who are Social Workers and making strides to positively change their communities. Diana Gallegos, BSW, is a Social Work Care Manager for the Multipurpose Senior Services Program (MSSP) in South LA. She started with Partners in December 2021 after receiving her B.S.W. from Cal State Los Angeles in 2020 and plans to pursue a master’s degree in Social Work in the future!
Diana was introduced to the profession of Social Work when she attended the Social Justice Leadership Academy in East Los Angeles where there were numerous opportunities for high school students to participate in social justice activities and volunteering. She reflects, “I knew I wanted a career that would allow me to enhance the lives of vulnerable populations whether that be low-income, disabled, or aging populations.”
During her undergraduate program, Diana was involved in the Tau Eta Honor Society for Social Work. There she put her social work values into action through volunteer service activities.
She continues her volunteer efforts by participating in beach clean-ups and food drives. She is also passionate about advocacy and has participated in numerous community marches to stand up for injustice. In addition, Diana volunteers every year at an annual resource fair in East LA that provides information on local resources for members of the community. She grew up in East LA, the home to many Latino and underrepresented immigrants, and noticed that due to language barriers, immigration status, or lack of guidance, it was difficult for many to find and utilize resources available to them. Through her involvement in planning and setting up resource fairs for many years, she helped countless individuals, and their families gain additional knowledge on available community resources and services that ultimately helped in creating a better life for them in East Los Angeles.
Diana Gallegos is a great example of a positive female role model making a huge difference at Partners and in the community!
